Cherry secretary desk with drawers.
A drop-front secretary desk in solid cherry — three dovetailed drawers below, a fitted interior of cubbies and small drawers above, and a writing surface that folds away when the workday ends. Made the way antique secretaries were made, at a size that fits a modern home office.

A closed desk in an open room.
The best secretary desks with drawers do two jobs honestly. Closed, they read as a chest — a piece of furniture, not a workstation. Open, they give you a full writing surface, hidden charging, and a place for the mail, the checkbook, and the small stack of paperwork that follows every household around.
Ours is built to that standard — a small-footprint secretary desk with storage that disappears into a living room, guest room, or bedroom when the lid comes down.

How this secretary is built.
Solid cherry (or walnut, mahogany, oak)
Solid wood throughout — no veneered MDF sides, no particleboard drawer bottoms. Cherry is the classic; walnut reads darker and more modern.
Hand-cut dovetail drawers
Every drawer — the three lower drawers and the four small interior drawers — is hand-cut dovetail with a solid-wood bottom. They will still open smoothly a hundred years from now.
Fitted interior
Six pigeonhole cubbies for envelopes, notebooks, and files, plus four small drawers for stationery. Interior layout adjusts to your storage list.
Drop-front on solid hardware
Solid brass hinges and drop supports — no plastic, no gas struts to fail. The writing surface holds flat and level under a leaning elbow.
Laptop-ready
A 13" or 15" laptop stays on the writing surface with the lid closed. Cord passthroughs at the back route chargers out of sight.
Small footprint
38" wide, 20" deep — a full desk when open, a chest of drawers against the wall when closed. Fits apartments, guest rooms, and bedroom corners.
Questions we hear a lot.
What is a secretary desk with drawers?
Three lower storage drawers plus a hinged drop-front that opens to a writing surface, backed by a fitted interior of cubbies and small drawers. A closed desk in an open room.
Can it hold a laptop with the lid closed?
Yes. Standard 13" and 15" laptops sit on the writing surface with the drop-front closed, and cord passthroughs keep the charger tucked out of sight.
What wood options are available?
Cherry (standard), walnut, mahogany, and quarter-sawn white oak. Cherry darkens beautifully over the first year; walnut arrives dark from day one.
How long to build?
Eight to ten weeks — most of the time goes into the hand-cut dovetail drawers and the fitted interior.
